Reinstalling System

Last updated time: September 11, 2024, 15:22:40
Operation scenario
The system reinstallation operation can restore an instance to its initial state just after startup and is an important recovery method when an instance encounters a system failure. Changing the operating system can reset the system disk of an instance and bring it back to its initial state just after startup.
Prerequisites
Only instances in the "shut down" state support the system reinstallation operation.
If the instance is not in the shut down state, please see Shut Down Instances and perform the shut down operation.
Notes
System reinstallation is a high-risk operation. Before performing this operation, please be sure to read the following notes:
Instance data: System reinstallation will directly clear the data on the system disk. If there is important data, please back it up in advance.
Public IP: The elastic public IP will be continuously retained.
It is recommended to use the public images provided by the platform for replacement. Do not use images from unknown sources.
Operation steps
Log in to the cloud server console.
In the left navigation tree, select "Servers" to jump to the cloud server list page.
Operate according to the view mode actually used. For related operations, please see View Instance Information.
List view: In the operation column on the right side of the row where the instance to be operated is located, select "More > Disks and Images > Reinstall System".
Detail view: On the page of the instance to be operated, click "All Operations > Disks and Images > Reinstall System" in the upper right corner.
In the pop-up window, carefully read the notice for system reinstallation, and then click "Confirm to change the operating system".
In the pop-up window, select the system image and release version, set the login method of the instance, and then click "OK" to start reinstallation.
Operation result
Successful replacement: When performing the system replacement operation, the status of the instance will change to "Reinstalling". After about 10 minutes, the instance replacement is completed and the instance starts up automatically. At this time, the status changes to "Running", and the replaced image will be displayed.
Failed replacement: The status will change from "Reinstalling" to "Stopped". At this time, the instance will roll back to the state before the failure and remain shut down. Please try the replacement operation again or contact customer service for processing.
